Concert Black Dress

I made this "concert black" dress between 9th and 10th grade because I wanted another formal dress but I wanted to get more use out of it. So I made it to wear to all my performances.

While I just managed to zip this dress up, this dress was smaller when I first made it. I don't remember making it bigger but it's pretty clear that I let the back seams out.

I've only worn it a handful of times because it was just a little too dressy for school concerts and really any concert in Wyoming.

My favorite part of this dress is the ruching on the sides to shape the bust. I am a sucker for those creative details and at the time I was feeling insecure about my ability to get simple side seams (princess seams) to fit me properly.

I loved this pattern so much I made a second dress in the same pattern but out of a purple/gold iridescent fabric. Unfortunately, she has seen better days and the iridescent fabric looks weird in photos but included is a picture of the back lacing. The lacing was a pattern modification and one of the hardest ones for me to figure out.
