About the name.
A bit about the name of this blog and in turn, me.
Wool…
It all started when my brother wanted a livestock animal for a 4-H project. So we got a lamb and it turned out to be quite the learning experience! During the course of that summer I ended up helping my brother out with his sheep chores and by the fall, I had fallen in love with every aspect of taking care of that lamb. So when the next spring rolled around, I got a lamb of my own, and I’ve been “gathering” sheep ever since. In tandem with my growing love for the animal, I also learned a bunch about their wool. As a seamstress (also crafty with yarn), I naturally came to realize that wool is one of my favorite fibers to work with. So you see, I have a habit of literally seeking out or “gathering” wool in all its various forms.
Now I picked the word “gather” for a few reasons.
Gather can mean to collect, pick up, store up. I love to gather creative ideas, try new things, new experiences.
Gather is a term used in sewing where one uses a thread to draw together a length of fabric. It’s often used to make the frills on a dress and adds a feminine touch.
Gather is also a social term. We often gather together to visit, share wisdom, and encourage each other.
And of course this blog is written by me as I interact in the world, gathering my own thoughts, and observing the traditions of the women before me who have gathered such things as wool or flax, food, friends, and family.
So welcome!
